NEWBERRY – The Newberry women's basketball team fell to Coker on Wednesday night at Eleazer Arena by a final score of 74-65. Newberry drops to 11-6 (5-5 SAC) while the Cobras improve to 4-14 (3-7 SAC).
The Wolves and Cobras traded buckets back and forth as the teams combined for five lead changes in the first half. Coker ended the first half on a 13-3 run leading to a seven-point deficit for the Wolves at halftime.
Newberry clawed back to take the lead halfway through the third quarter on a
Georgia Elliott-King 3-pointer.
Courtney Lyons, who made a career-best 4-of-7 shots from behind the arc, added another make from long range before the Cobras tied it up to close the quarter.
Coker opened the final quarter with six straight points and never let up as they poured in 26 points total in the quarter leading to Newberry's fifth straight loss.
Meg Essex continued to light it up from the field, posting a 24-point and 11 rebound double-double performance.
Kelsey McDermott added 10 points while Lyons finished with 12.
