NEWBERRY – The No. 25 ranked Newberry women's basketball team fell to No. 14 Anderson, 62-47, at Eleazer Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Newberry failed to overcome a slow start in the game, despite a stellar effort in the second half. Anderson held Newberry to a season-low point total in the first half and surmounted a sizable lead by halftime.
Regan McCarty sparked the Wolves at the start of the fourth quarter, nailing a tough lay-up and converting the and-one free throw. She then nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to chip away the Trojans lead.
Ke'Shaun White followed it up with four straight points of her own on a corner trey and converted one of two free throws. A lay-up from Essex had the Wolves with 10 points of the Trojans lead.
Anderson managed to extend their breathing room with five straight points of their own to put the game out of reach for the Wolves is the final moments of the game.
The game was played in a lively crowd of over 656 fans, a regular season attendance best since Nov. 30, 2004.
Three Wolves scored in double-digits for the third straight game with
Shelby Britten leading the way with 13 points and
Regan McCarty and
Meg Essex dropping 11 and 10 points respectively.
