CAYCE, S.C. – The Newberry men’s tennis team was defeated by Wingate 7-2 on Thursday morning at the Cayce Tennis Center. Wingate is ranked No. 8 in the Southeast Region and No. 42 in the nation.

The Bulldogs (11-3, 6-1 SAC) took two of three doubles matches from Newberry (15-4, 6-2 SAC). Nikhil Mannepalli and Angel Pizarro scored a doubles point for Newberry, winning 8-6 at the No. 1 position.

Mannepalli notched a tough, three-set win at No. 2 singles, winning 1-6, 6-4, 11-9. Mannepalli won his 16th singles match of the season, including his last five in a row. Pizarro took his match at No. 3 to three sets, dropping a close 6-7, 6-3, 10-3 decision.  

Newberry hosts Anderson (14-4, 4-3 SAC) at the Cayce Tennis Center on Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
