GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The Newberry men’s tennis team earned its second 5-4 win in a row as the Wolves bested Tusculum Saturday morning at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
Newberry (15-3, 6-1 SAC) managed to hold off the sweep by Tusculum (10-5, 5-2 SAC) in the doubles matches. Nikhil Mannepalli and Angel Pizarro won 8-5 in the No. 2 slot. Edison Ambarzumjan and Jordan Monosky dropped a close 9-8 (7-2) decision at No. 1.
Newberry then took four out of six singles matches against the Pioneers. Ambarzumjan recorded a narrow 7-6, 6-7, 7-5 win at No. 1. Mannepalli also won his match in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 at No. 3. Pizzaro was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 4, while Logan Adkins closed out the match win for Newberry with a 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles.
The Wolves have now won four consecutive contests, and Newberry remains in second place in the South Atlantic Conference standings.
Newberry returns to the Cayce Tennis Center to host No. 42 Wingate (9-3, 5-1 SAC) on Thursday. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
