Men's Tennis scores hard-fought 5-4 win vs. Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Newberry men’s tennis team eked out a close 5-4 South Atlantic Conference victory against Carson-Newman Friday afternoon at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex.


Angel Pizarro sealed the match win for Newberry (14-3, 4-1 SAC) at the No. 4 singles position, recording a 6-2, 6-3 decision that allowed the Wolves to remain in a three-way tie for second place in the SAC standings.


The Wolves and the Eagles each won three flights during singles competition. In addition to Pizarro’s win at No. 4, Jordan Monosky scored tough a 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Nikhil Mannepalli recorded a hard-fought 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 3 to wrap-up the singles scoring for Newberry.


Newberry started out the match by taking two out of three doubles matches over Carson-Newman (4-7, 3-4 SAC). Mannepalli and Pizarro were 8-3 winners at No. 2, while Richard Zeh and Logan Adkins notched an 8-5 victory at No. 3.


The Wolves will travel to Tusculum (10-4, 5-1 SAC) tomorrow for a 10:00 a.m. match.
