AIKEN, S.C. - The Newberry men’s tennis team (4-1) suffered a 7-2 defeat to USC Aiken (1-1) in its spring opener on Saturday afternoon at the Tennis Complex. The Pacers are ranked No. 8 in the region and No. 40 nationally.
Edison Ambarzumjan and Jordan Monosky won at the No. 1 doubles position 8-6 to put Newberry on the board.
Nikhil Mannepalli picked up the final point for the Wolves at No. 3 singles, defeating Julien Tan 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 in three sets. Angel Pizarro took a tough 7-5, 6-3 loss at the No. 4 position.
Newberry continues its non-conference season on Wed., Feb. 8 against Lander (0-0). The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
