HILTON HEAD ISLAND - With a modified lineup, the Newberry Wolves' men's tennis team pulled off the sweep of the annual spring break trip with a 5-4 victory over the Chowan Hawks at Chaplin Park on Saturday morning.
Newberry moves to 17-1 overall on the season with 11 straight wins. Chowan came into the match ranked 9th in the Atlantic Region. The Wolves' next action is slated to be a tough South Atlantic Conference match at Queens next Saturday.
The Wolves only took one match at doubles, with Jordan Monosky and Jacob Svantesson bumping up to No. 1 and taking an 8-4 win.
Needing four wins in singles to win the dual, the Wolves battled back. Monosky and Svantesson both took their matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and Richard Zeh won at No. 6 singles.
The dual came down to the late-finishing No. 1 singles match, where Fernando Espana took a 6-3, 6-4 win to give Newberry the win.
