NEWBERRY - The Newberry Wolves' men's tennis team picked up its eighth straight win with a 7-2 victory over the visiting Findlay Oilers at the Cannon Courts on Tuesday afternoon.
Newberry brings its record to 14-1 on the season with the win, bringing the Wolves their highest single season win total as a Division II program. The Wolves will look to extend that school record Tuesday with a key South Atlantic Conference matchup against the Tusculum Pioneers at home.
The Wolves fielded a modified lineup due to some injuries, but took a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match thanks to strong play by duets playing up the order. Logan Adkins and Richard Zeh at No. 2 and Fernando Espana and Angel Pizarro at No. 3 each took close 8-6 wins in their matches.
Singles play was much more decisive for Newberry, as the Wolves took five of the six matches. Jordan Monosky took a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2, Angel Pizarro won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3, and Adkins clinched the dual with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 4. Zeh and Alex Amble took wins at No. 5 and No. 6 to round out another victory for the scarlet and gray.
