NEWBERRY - The Newberry Wolves made quick work of the Brevard Tornados in tennis action Friday, with both the men's and women's team cruising to 9-0 victories at the Cannon Courts.
WOMEN: Newberry 9, Brevard 0
The Wolves dropped only five games in the nine matches of a dominant performance. Newberry moves to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference with the win.
Vanessa Ortiz and Amanda Carrillo rolled to a 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, Elizabeth Williamson and Tara Lamers eased to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles and Sierra Whaley and Veronika Viegas won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles play was nearly a clean sweep for the Wolves. Williamson at No. 1, Lamers at No. 4 and Kelly McManus at No. 5 each took 6-0, 6-0 wins to clinch the victory. Ortiz at No. 2 and Carrillo at No. 3 each took 8-0 wins and Viegas earned an 8-1 win at No. 6.
MEN: Newberry 9, Brevard 0
With the Tornados defaulting two matches, the Wolves did not need long to earn the big win. Newberry moves to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in SAC play with the win.
"Los Fernandos" - Fernando Espana and Fernando Tous - at No. 1 doubles and Jordan Monosky and Jacob Svantesson at No. 2 doubles each won by 8-1 scores.
Alex Amble cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles and Monosky's 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles clinched the win. Svantesson earned a 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, Espana won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 and Tous won 8-3 at No. 2.
