Box Score COLUMBUS- The Newberry College Women’s Soccer Team tied their season opener against The University of Tampa, 1-1, at the CSU Invitational.
Both teams were scoreless until the 32nd minute when the Spartans scored the first goal of the game. Guadalupe Magana took one shot on goal for Newberry but was saved by Tampa’s goalie.
While Newberry was active on offense, Tampa held the 1-0 lead until the 78th minute of the game. Erika Linch scored for Newbery, tying the game at 1-1.
The game went into overtime where Morgan Powers took a shot on goal but it was saved by Tampa’s goalie. After hard play in the first overtime, the teams went into the second overtime where they both left the score at 1-1.
Alexis Carrillo made 11 saves in goal for the Wolves playing the entire game. Tampa outshot Newberry, 22-8, and took seven total corners compared to Newberry's two.
Newberry will play their second game at the Invitational on Sunday, September 6 against Rollins College at 11:30 a.m.
