LEXINGTON – The Newberry College men’s tennis team dropped their conference matchup versus the Anderson Trojans 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the Lexington Tennis Complex.
In doubles competition Newberry (8-7) claimed one of three possible points against the Trojans. In No. 1 matchup Fernando Tous and Fernando Espana defeated Juan Carracedo and Mateo Rivas 9-8 (7-4). The No. 2 doubles contest went the way of Nicolas Ascarrunz and Harrison Kansol as they won 8-6 over Carlos Nicolopulos and Richard Zeh. In the No. 3 doubles contest, an 8-6 loss plagued Jordan Monosky and Angel Pizzaro against Paul Michael Calhoun and Inaki Irberry.
In singles competition, Tous was victorious in the No. 2 contest as he defeated Ascarrunz in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. At the No. 5 match, Monosky took a 7-5, 6-3 win over his counterpart Iriberry.
Espana fell in the No. 1 singles match 7-5, 6-3 to Carracedo. At the No. 3 contest Rivas won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 over Pizzaro. Calhoun defeated Nicolopulos in consecutive sets 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 slot. The No. 6 match was won by Kansol over Zeh 6-1, 6-4.
The Wolves return to action on Saturday as they travel to Jefferson City, Tennessee for a conference contest versus Carson-Newman at 1 p.m.
