Newberry defeats Emmanuel 9-0 on Wednesday

NEWBERRY - The Newberry College men's tennis team defeated the Emmanuel Lions 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Cannon Courts on the campus of Newberry College.

The Wolves earned victories in all three doubles contests on the afternoon. At the No. 1 doubles slot Fernando Espana (Madrid, Spain) and Fernando Tous (Spain) defeated David Forehand and Vellozo 8-2. Jordan Monosky (Clearwater, Fla) and Angel Pizzaro earned the 8-3 win over Louis Malejka and Ben Strickland. The third doubles match went by way of the Richard Zeh (Petersaurach, Germany) and Marko Sekulic as they earned the victory over Joaquin Marshall and Tyler Terrell 8-4.

In singles action Tous continued the Wolves' scoring, defeated Malejka in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at the second slot. Espana earned the next point for Newberry out of the No. 1 singles position defeating Vellozo 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 3 position Pizzaro defeated Marshall in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The final singles match to clinch the victory was Zeh defeating Forehand. The following two singles matches went only one set as Monosky defeated Strickland 8-2 at the No. 5 matchup and Sekulic cruised against Terrell in the No. 6 slot 8-2.

The Wolves continue their 2015 season on Saturday against Mars Hill at noon from the Cannon Courts on the campus of Newberry College.
