COLUMBIA – The Newberry College men’s tennis team earned their second win of the season as they defeated Benedict 7-2 at the Southeast Tennis Center.
In singles competition the Wolves earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position as Fernando Espana defeated Zibusis Nidmande. Benedict earned a point in the No. 2 slot as Takudswa Muswere claimed the win over Newberry’s Carlos Nicolopulos 6-3, 6-3.
Angel Pizzaro found victory at the No. 3 position over Justin Payton 6-3, 6-1. The Wolves fell in the No. 4 singles match as Shane Latchman defeated Richard Zeh 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
The fifth position saw Jordan Monosky defeat Juan Hernandez 6-1, 6-3. In the sixth ranked singles contest Marko Sekulic shutout Malek Salmen in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
The Wolves swept all three doubles points on the afternoon. In the No. 1 doubles contest, Espana and Tous defeated Muswere and Payton 8-1. Zeh and Nicolopulos won against Ndimande and Hernandez 8-3. The No. 3 match was won 8-1 by Monosky and Pizzaro over Latchman and Salmen.
