Wolves see season end at hands of No. 33 Coker

ROCK HILL - The No. 33 Coker Cobras proved too strong for the Newberry men's tennis team as the third seeded Cobras toppled the Wolves 5-0 in the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference quarterfinals at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.

The Wolves (9-12) fell behind the Cobras in doubles play, with the closest match coming at No. 1 doubles as seniors Vinicius Botelho (Fortaleza, Brazil) and David Sons (Lexington, S.C.) fell 8-5 to Andre Staab and James Corfield.

Singles play saw Sons and junior Carlos Nicolopulos (Valencia, Venezuela) fall before the final four matches were abandon as the Cobras clinched victory and a semifinals berth.

The Wolves' loss ends Newberry's season with a final record of 9-12. Botelho finishes the year as Newberry's wins leader after posting a 16-4 overall record.
