Kiser, Sons win twice in Wolves' 5-4 win over Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. - The Newberry men's tennis team picked up a non-conference in-region victory at Erskine on Thursday as the Wolves knocked off the Flying Fleet 5-4.

Doubles saw the Wolves (6-4) take a 2-1 lead over Erskine (1-10), thanks to an 8-4 win at No. 2 by sophomore Fernando Espana (Madrid, Spain) and junior Carlos Nicolopulos (Valencia, Venezuela).

The No. 3 doubles side of seniors David Sons (Lexington, S.C.) and Jeffery Kiser (Newberry, S.C.) cruised to an 8-3 win over Andre Andre and Benny Uy.

Singles play saw the two sides split 3-3, with Newberry's losses coming at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4.

No. 1 singles saw senior Vinicius Botelho topple Jack West in straight sets by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Sons earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Robert Clarke. The Wolves third singles win belonged to Kiser as he knocked off Uy 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6.

The Wolves head up the road to Clinton on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match against Division I Presbyterian.
