Botelho, Saunders earn wins in Wolves 6-3 loss to No. 42 Bulldogs

WINGATE, N.C. - Seniors Vinicius Botelho and Michael Saunders had perfect afternoons at the Wingate University Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon, as the pair won in both singles and doubles play in the Wolves' 6-3 loss at No. 42 Wingate.

The Bulldogs (3-4, 1-0 SAC) took control of the match with a pair of victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Newberry's lone doubles point came at No. 1 as Saunders (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Botelho (Fortaleza, Brazil) topped Neal Towlson and Sebastian Hall 8-3.

Saunders took another match from Towlson as the two tangled at No. 1 singles. After cruising in set one, Saunders dropped the second set before edging Towlson in the third set 7-5.

Botelho was given a tough first set by Hall, as the Brazilian was forced to win a first set tiebreak. The second set belonged to Botelho, as he handled Hall in a 6-2 set victory.

The Wolves next take the court on Thursday at the Cannon Tennis Courts as Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Newberry for a 2 p.m. scheduled first serve.
