Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Newberry Wolves rode a wave of momentum from the past weekend and rolled to a sweep of the Queens University Royals in Curry Arena. The Wolves improve to 8-7 overall and 2-5 in South Atlantic Conference play while the Royals drop to 4-11 and 1-6 in the SAC. Set scores for the match were 25-19, 25-19 and 25-23.

A band of Wolves including seniors Jessica King and Holly Brisson, teamed with junior Alexus Horton, combined to hit a ridiculous .538 for the match without an error. They totaled 21 kills amongst the trio. Freshman Cydney Shaw handed out a 14 assists while senior Lauren Prachar totaled a team high 10 digs. As a team, the Wolves racked up five solo blocks and ten block assists on their way to totaling 10 team blocks.
Newberry got out to a fast start in the first set pounding out a .387 team hitting percentage. Queens trailed the Wolves for the majority of the match but a late offensive burst from the Wolves powered them ahead to take the set 25-19. King, Brisson and sophomore Logan Hayward all put away four kills while Prachar added six digs.
The second set was not much different as Newberry pulled out nine of the last 12 points to take the frame 25-19. Horton and King both picked up three kills in five attempts while senior Amanda Soper added two errorless kills of her own. Junior Rachel Moran picked apart the Royals defense in the set tallying three service aces.
The Wolves turned the sweep set into a thriller letting Queens mount a comeback before dethroning the Royals. Newberry lead 21-16 before the Royals fought back to take the lead 23-22. As the saying goes, good things come in threes and the Wolves scored three points in a row to close out not only the set but also the match. King, Brisson and Soper all accounted for three kills apiece, while Soper added 2.5 blocks and senior Elayni Stokes accumulated five digs for Newberry defensively.
The Wolves look to take another huge South Atlantic Conference road win tomorrow as they travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on the Catawba Indians at 5 p.m.
