Newberry College Athletics

BRISTOL, TN--Newberry College women's volleyball is off to the best start in program history under fourth-year head coach Kiko Santos and assistant coach Shannah Carter. The Wolves improved to 7-0 on the season after a perfect 3-0 weekend at the King Classic.

Newberry opened the King Classic with a 3-0 sweep over Winston-Salem State, taking the sets (25-12, 25-20, 25-11) Carole Ann Hussey, Evie Paalman and Symone Wyatt each recorded seven kills to lead the Wolves offensively, while Carley Raleigh finished with 14 assists. Maggie Helle anchored the defensive effort with a team-high 18 digs as Newberry recorded 31 kills, eight blocks and four service aces in the victory.

The Wolves continued tournament play with another 3-0 sweep, defeating host King University ( 25-18, 28-26, 25-17) Helle led the Newberry offense with 16 kills and six service aces, while Hussey added nine kills and Paalman contributed seven. Raleigh recorded 19 assists and four aces, while Hailey Clayworth led the Wolves defensively with 13 digs. Newberry finished the match with 38 kills, 10 service aces and nine blocks.

Newberry closed out the King Classic with a 3-0 sweep of Saint Anselm, (25-13, 25-17, 25-16) Helle and Wyatt paced the offense with eight kills apiece, while Paalman added seven kills. Raleigh recorded 19 assists and four service aces, while Clayworth posted 18 digs and Jordan led the Wolves at the net with seven blocks. 

The Wolves are back in action Tuesday, September 8^th at Wingate!
