WINGATE, N.C. — Newberry College women's volleyball continued its historic start to the 2026 season Tuesday night, earning a thrilling 3-2 victory over No. 18 Wingate at Cuddy Arena.  

The win marks the first road victory over Wingate in program history, as the Wolves remain undefeated at 8-0 overall and 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. 

Newberry put together a strong comeback in the five-set battle, losing the first two but taking the final three sets (20-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22,15-12) to secure the historic road victory. 

Maggie Helle led the Newberry offense with 13 kills while adding 22 digs and four block assists. On the defensive end, Hailey Clayworth anchored the Wolves with a team-high 24 digs, helping Newberry finish the match with 106 digs as a team. 
 

The victory gives Newberry its first SAC win of the season and adds another milestone to an undefeated start. The Wolves will look to continue their historic run as they return to action later this week. 

The Wolves are back in action Friday, September 11th for the home opener  against Lincoln Memorial University at 6:00 PM
