WILSON, N.C. — Newberry volleyball opened the 2026 season with a strong showing at the Barton Tournament on Friday, earning a pair of victories to begin the year 2-0.  

The Wolves opened the tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Barton (25-22, 25-18, 25-14). Maggie Helle led Newberry offensively with nine kills, while Hailey Clayworth anchored the defensive effort with 13 digs.  

Newberry carried that momentum into its second match of the day, defeating Elizabeth City State 3-1 (25-19,21-25, 25-13, 25-18). D'Metria Jordan powered the Wolves' offense with 12 kills, while Clayworth continued her strong defensive performance with 22 digs. Maggie Helle added 14 kills and four aces, while Anna Schneider contributed 11 kills. Carley Raleigh directed the Newberry offense with 28 assists as the Wolves closed the opening day of the Barton Tournament undefeated at 2-0. 

The Wolves continue at the Barton Tournament at noon on Saturday, August 29th, where they play Barton College.
