Wolves topple Bears in 9-0 home victory

NEWBERRY - For the first time this season the Newberry men's tennis team wrapped up a perfect 9-0 victory as the Wolves toppled Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday at the Cannon Tennis Courts.

No. 1 doubles saw the Wolves (9-7, 2-3 SAC) earn an 8-2 win over the Bears (0-7, 0-6 SAC) as juniors Michael Saunders (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Vinicius Botelho (Fortaleza, Brazil) knocked off Filip Dobrosavljevic and Kilian Symalla. Senior Cal Loveridge (Derby, Derbyshire, England) and sophomore Carlos Nicolopulos (Valencia, Venezuela) took an 8-2 decision from Matthew Ledford and Dylan Millwood.

The Wolves' final doubles win came at No. 3 where freshman Fernando Espana (Madrid, Spain) and junior David Sons (Lexington, S.C.) picked up an 8-3 win against John Christian Reid and David Richardson.

Singles action saw Saunders drop only two games at No. 1 singles as he topped Richardson, while Botelho also earned a two-set win over Symalla at No. 2.

Nicolopulos also earned a win in straight sets as he knocked off Dobrosavljevic at No. 3, while his doubles partner dropped only one game at No. 4. The Wolves wrapped up a perfect 9-0 match as Espana topped Reid in straight sets at No. 5 and Kiser earned a two-set win at No. 6.

The Wolves are scheduled to travel to Brevard, N.C. on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. showdown with the Brevard Tornados.
