Botelho, Saunders both win twice in 6-3 loss to No. 32 Wingate

NEWBERRY - Despite wins at the top of the singles and doubles lineup the Newberry men's tennis team fell to No. 32 Wingate 6-3 at Newberry High School on Wednesday afternoon.

Newberry (3-4, 0-2 SAC) earned a single point in doubles action as No. 1 pairing of juniors Michael Saunders (Christchruch, New Zealand) and Vinicius Botelho (Fortaleza, Brazil) picked up an 8-5 victory over Wingate's (7-3, 2-0 SAC) Neal Towlson and Roberto Hennis.

Despite setbacks at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the Wolves picked up a pair of points early in singles action. The Wolves' first points of singles play came in a straight sets victory by Saunders at No. 1 singles over Kennedy Cancelado.

Botelho earned the Wolves' final team point with a tough three-set victory over Towlson at No. 2 singles.

The Wolves are scheduled to play at Tusculum on Friday at 2 p.m., before heading to Hilton Head Island for a weeks worth of tennis matches.
