AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Newberry Wolves fought back from the verge of going down by two sets to pull away for a 3-1 (21-25, 29-27, 25-16, 25-15) victory over the Augusta State Jaguars at Christenberry Fieldhouse on Tuesday evening.

With the win, Newberry moves to 7-5 on the season entering home South Atlantic Conference games against Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial this Friday and Saturday. ASU falls to 7-4 with the loss.

Jessica King (Los Angeles, Calif.) hit .412 in the match with a season-high 10 kills, also chipping in on five assisted blocks. Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) earned her seventh double-double of the season with 16 kills and 23 digs. Libero Elayni Stokes (Houston, Texas) had 18 digs.

Chelsea Mayor (Sugar Land, Texas), Madison Schultz (Bellmont, Ind.) and Amanda Soper (Simi Valley, Calif.) each had seven kills. Blair Browning (New Lexington, Ohio) passed out 24 assists and Rachel Moran (Cypress, Texas) dished out 21 assists.

The host Jaguars jumped out to an early lead in the set, pushing out to a six-point lead at 10-4. The Wolves battled back, narrowing the deficit to as few as three points, but ASU kept Newberry at arm's length on the way to a 25-21 set one win. King, Parrish and Schultz each had three kills in the set as Newberry hit .146 compared to Augusta's .270.

ASU looked to be on its way to a big lead in the second set by scoring the first four points, but Newberry fought back once again to tie the set by 7-all. The Wolves led by as many as five at 21-16 before it was ASU's turn to come back, tying the set at 23-all and getting to set point on a dribbling service ace off the tape. Newberry refused to go bown by two sets though, and tied the match at one set apiece with a 29-27 win. Parrish had four kills in the set, while Mayor and Soper had three apiece. Parrish and Stokes each had seven digs and the Wolves had three blocks, with King in on each of them. Newberry hit .064 in the set while ASU hit minus-.070.

After the halftime break, Newberry blasted the Jags in the final two sets. In the third, Newberry scored the first four of the first five points and cruised to the 25-16 lead behind seven Parrish kills. The Wolves hit .268 in the set.

It was more of the same in the fourth set. While the set was still tied at 10-all, the scarlet and gray scored 15 of the final 20 points. King's four kills on four swings in the set led the Wolves, who hit .270 in the set compared to ASU's .022.
