DUE WEST, S.C. - The Newberry men's tennis team picked up its 10th win of the season as the Wolves took down the Flying Fleet by a 6-3 margin at the Erskine Tennis Complex.
Newberry opened the day up with a pair of doubles victories. At No. 2 doubles the Wolves pairing of sophomore Mohammed Chakir (Rabat, Morocco) and junior Cal Loveridge (Derby, Derbyshire, England) earned an 8-2 win, while at No. 3 sophomore David Sons (Lexington, S.C.) and freshman Carlos Nicolopulos (Valencia, Venezuela) knocked off their opponents 8-6.
Newberry earned three victories in straight sets as sophomores Michael Saunders (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Vinicius Botelho (Fortaleza, Brazil) both earned a pair of 6-2 set victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Loveridge picked up a convincing win in set one at No. 4 singles, before edging out his opponent in a tight 7-5 second set victory. The Wolves final point came at No. 6 where Sons topped Erskine's Matthew Twitty in three sets.
Newberry returns to the Cannon Tennis Courts on the Newberry College campus this Friday when it plays host to conference and regional foe Tusculum at 2 p.m.
