Men's tennis wraps up Hilton Head trip with sweep of Senators

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - In their final match of a spring break trip to the Shipyard Racquet Club, the Newberry men's tennis team earned a 9-0 sweep over Davis & Elkins on Friday.

Newberry defeated the Senators handily in doubles action, earning 8-1 victories at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 double match ended in an 8-2 Newberry victory.

In singles action, Newberry sophomore David Sons (Lexington, S.C.) earned a pair of 6-0 victories at No. 5, while junior Cal Loveridge (Derby, Derbyshire, England) picked up two 6-1 wins at No. 3.

Atop the Wolves singles lineup, sophomore Michael Saunders (Christchurch, New Zealand) surrendered only three games in a straight sets victory at No. 1. Sophomore Vinicius Botelho (Fortaleza, Brazil) picked up a tough straight sets win at No. 2, needing to win the second set 7-5.

The Wolves' final two singles points came at No. 4 and No. 6 where freshman Carlos Nicolopulos (Valencia, Venezuela) and sophomore Jeffery Kiser (Newberry, S.C.) both earned two set victories.

The Newberry men hit the road on Wednesday March 14 as the Wolves visit the Flying Fleet of Erskine at 2:30 p.m.
