Wolves cruise to 9-0 men's tennis sweep at Benedict

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Sophomore Michael Saunders earned his team-high third win of the year as he helped lead the Newberry men's tennis team to its first sweep of the 2011-12 season as the Wolves topped Benedict College 9-0 at the Southeast Tennis Center.

After the Wolves (2-2) handled the Tigers (0-2) in three doubles victories, Newberry would win all six singles matches in straight sets.

Saunders (Christchurch, New Zealand) saw the toughest challenge of the afternoon in Shane Latchman, but the Wolves No. 1 singles player won comfortably with set scores of 6-1 and 6-4. The smoothest victory of the afternoon came at No. 5 singles where sophomore David Sons (Lexington, S.C.) earned his first win of the year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Tim Thornton.

Due to inclement weather the Wolves schedule has seen some changes, to see the most up to date men's tennis schedule check NewberryWolves.com.

Newberry's next scheduled match is Monday February 13, as the Wolves play host to North Georgia at the Cannon Tennis Courts.
