SALISBURY, N.C. - Three Newberry College players recorded double-doubles, but the Wolves fell to Catawba College 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 25-19) in South Atlantic Conference action in Goodman Gym on Saturday evening.

The Wolves fall to 16-13 overall and 9-8 in SAC play and will close out the regular season on Friday, November 9, at Anderson. Catawba is now 11-12 overall and 8-7 in the league.

Blair Browning (New Lexington, Ohio), Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) and Lauren Prachar (Fort Wayne, Ind.) all had double-doubles, with Parrish leading the team in kills with 17 and digs with 30. Prachar had 14 kills and 13 digs, with Browning earning 42 assists and 12 digs.

With the performance, Parrish now needs only four kills against Anderson to become the Wolves' all-time kills leader in just her junior season.

Catawba got out to an 11-5 lead early in the opening set, but the Wolves were able to claw back to tie the set up by 16-all. However, Catawba scored the next four points and did not the Wolves back within three points in the rest of the set. Prachar led Newberry in the set with five kills, while Parrish had four and Madison Schultz (Decatur, Ind.) put away three. Catawba hit .227 in the set, while Newberry hit only .154.

In the second set, it was Newberry who grabbed the crucial lead, with an Amanda Soper (Simi Valley, Calif.) kill giving the Wolves a 13-9 lead. Short runs toward the end of the set helped the Wolves get closer to the set win, and Newberry put away the final four points of the set to tie the match. Parrish had eight kills and eight digs in the set, with the Wolves hitting .163 to Catawba's .085 and digging out 30 Catawba attacks.

The third set did not see either squad pull away until late, as the set was tied as late as 13-all before a 5-1 Catawba surge which turned out to be enough to take the two sets to one lead. Prachar had seven kills in the set, but the Wolves hit only .080 and Catawba hit .268.

In the fourth set, the hosts cruised out to a quick 7-1 lead and Newberry was able to get back to within 9-7. Unfortunately for the Wolves, Catawba was able to pull away slightly again, and despite an evenly played set towards the end, Catawba earned the set and match win. Parrish, Schultz and Soper each had three kills in the set, as Newberry hit their best set of the night at .231, but Catawba hit .378.
