Box Score DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Three second half goals scored by North Georgia University helped ease the Saints past Newberry College, 4-2, as the Wolves were handed their fifth straight loss to open up the 2010 season.
After falling behind in the 12th minute on a North Georgia (4-1) forward Kelsey Martin goal, Newberry (0-5) senior Amberly Fowler (Greenville, S.C.) tied up the match 1-1 with her first goal of the season just before the half.
Period number two started much like the first, as a quick goal by Casey Smith put the Saints up one before Amber Chase (Aiken, S.C.) punched one in for the Wolves to knot the game once again in the 60th minute.
But a mere 10 seconds later the Saints Emily Dover sent a shot past Newberry goalie Megan Hrenchir (Lawrence, Kan.) to give North Georgia the lead. Samantha Abrahart added one more to the Saints total as she headed in a Smith cross in the 65th minute to put the game away.
Newberry struggled to find its rhythm offensively, taking just eight shots compared to North Georgia's 24. Cassie Smith (Lyman, S.C.) led the Wolves with her two shots.
Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.) and Hrenchir split time in the goal for Newberry. Rhoades played 83 minutes in the net, saving four shots and allowing two goals while Hrenchir saw seven minutes of playing time allowing the final two Saints goals and saving just one challenge.
Newberry returns home for it's conference opener in hopes of finding their first win of the year as they take on Lincoln Memorial this Saturday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m.
