Box Score

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Newberry College women's soccer team came out on the wrong end in the battle of the Wolves as they fell to the University of West Georgia, 1-0, to make it four straight losses to start off the 2010 campaign.

Newberry (0-4) held strong until the 80th minute when West Georgia (1-2) forward Kelsey Cook headed in a Kate Marnock cross to break the 0-0 tie.

The scarlet and gray had their chances offensively, outshooting West Georgia by a 9-5 margin and taking five shots on goal in the second half alone. Amberly Fowler (Greenville, S.C.), Jesse Langdon (Raleigh, N.C.) and Megan Douglas (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) each took two shots during the contest.

Goalie Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.) played the full 90 minutes in front of the net, saving one shot in the first half.

Newberry will wrap up its Georgia road trip as the Wolves face off against North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga. on Sept. 14.
