Newberry drops regular season finale to Augusta State, 9-0

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Newberry College men's tennis team faced Augusta State in its regular season finale on Tuesday, but the Jaguars took advantage of several Newberry defaults for an Augusta State win, 9-0.

Newberry finishes the season at 2-13 overall. Augusta State improves to 11-5.

In singles play, Pavle Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia) fell to Bernando Fernandes, 6-3, 6-3, while Christian Ranguelov (Vienna, Austria) lost to Henrique Boturao, 6-0, 6-0. Scott Busbee (Columbia, S.C.) also came up short against Jan Labas, 6-1, 6-0, and Samuel Cartin (Irmo, S.C.) fell to Guilherme Ferraz, 6-0, 6-0. Augusta State then earned two points after a pair of Newberry defaults.

In doubles action, Ranguelov and Popovic lost to Fernandes and Boturao, 8-1. Busbee and Cartin also came out on the losing end to Stevenson and Labas, 8-0. A Newberry default then gave Augusta State the 9-0 win.
