Wolves hold regionally ranked Pfeiffer to 0-0 draw

Box Score

NEWBERRY - The Newberry College women's soccer team picked up their first tie of the season as they held the regionally ranked Pfieffer University Falcons to a 0-0, double-overtime draw.

Newberry (4-11-1) fired off 17 shots, five on goal, but failed to put the game winner in the back of the net. Pfeiffer (10-5-1), which is ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, outshot the Wolves with 17, nine on goal.

“We came out and played with a lot of emotion,” said Newberry head coach Karrie Miller. “We played a really solid team and held them in check. We had chances that we should have capitalized more on but I'm proud of our girls for playing 110 minutes and not giving up. We'll regroup and be ready for Saturday.”

Newberry goalie Megin Hrenchir (Lawrence, Kan.) stopped all nine Falcon attempts at goal, playing the full 110 minutes in front of the net.

The Wolves were led offensively by freshman Bianca Warder's (Irmo, S.C.) three shots. Junior Jesse Langdon (Raleigh, N.C.) took two shots, both on goal, with teammates Amberly Fowler (Greenville, S.C.), Meagan Heney (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) and Tiffany Kinner (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) each taking two shots as well.

Pfeiffer was led by Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Megan Reaves (Mims, Fla.) who each had four shots and two on target.

It was also senior day for the scarlet and gray who honored four year players Fowler and Chestnutt before the contest.

Newberry will be back in South Atlantic Conference action as the Wolves wrap up their regular season schedule with a road game at Carson-Newman (9-6, 6-1). Game time is set for 2 p.m. this Saturday.
