JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Newberry College men's tennis team won its third consecutive match, 6-3, over Carson-Newman College in South Atlantic Conference action here Friday.
The Indians (4-6 overall, 2-1 SAC) followed the lead of freshman Maxim Sukharev. The Lithuanian notched a second straight win at No. 1 singles over Michael Swanson, 6-3, 6-1, and paired up with Felipe Sobrinho for a third consecutive win at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, over Swanson and Jack Harvie.
Scott Gates (Atlanta, Ga.) also recorded two victories for Newberry on the day, as he defeated John Borthick in No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-2, and teamed with Mikael Jurkovic for an 8-6 win over Borthick and Preston Sneed in No. 3 doubles.
The Indians will look to extend their winning streak on Saturday, as they take on No. 39 Tusculum College at 11 a.m. in Greeneville, Tenn.
