Indians challenge #26 Blue Hose; fall 7-2

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College challenged #26 Presbyterian College in men's tennis action Thursday at the R. Wright Cannon Courts, but came up short, 7-2, in the South Atlantic Conference opener for the Indians.  Presbyterian remains undefeated in SAC play (3-0, 6-5 overall), while Newberry falls to 4-5 and 0-1 in the league.

The doubles squad of Toby Rawlings (Bristol, England) and Oliver Elston (Katy, Texas) was victorious over PC's Fediuk/Luciuk in number three doubles, 8-3.  Elston continued his momentum in singles play, defeating Brad Luciuk 7-5 and 6-1.

Rawlings went three sets with Aaron Chapman, winning the first 6-3, but falling 6-0 and then 10-4 in the super tiebreaker.  Scott Gates (Atlanta, Ga.) nearly pushed Pat Fediuk to a third set at number five singles.

Newberry plays Saturday at Wingate, with matches beginning at 2:30.  PC hosts #11 USC Upstate tomorrow afternoon in Clinton.
