Newberry falls one spot to second in Super Region II rankings; Seven Wolves individually ranked

BELMONT, N.C. - The Newberry College wrestling team fell one spot to second in the Super Region Two Coaches Poll, which was released Monday. The Wolves have seven wrestlers in the top six of their individual weight classes.

The Wolves have competed only once since the last rankings were released, allowing for little movement in individual rankings. Lake Erie jumped the scarlet and gray in the team rankings following the Storm's upset dual win over No. 2 Notre Dame.

Huston Evans (Springfield, Ohio) is still ranked first in the region at 197 lbs. He is 5-0 this year since joining the Wolves' lineup for the spring semester.

Jared Holliday (Burlington, N.J.) remains in the second spot at 184 lbs., carrying a 21-8 record this season with nine wins by fall.

The other five regionally ranked Wolves are all ranked fifth in the region - Trung Duong (Lynchburg, Va.) at 125 lbs., Seiji Borja (North Charleston, S.C.) at 149 lbs., Lukas Gilmore (Greenville, Mich.) at 165 lbs., Joe Pittman (Forsyth, Ga.) at 174 lbs. and Cody Brundage (Chapin, S.C.) at heavyweight.

Duong improved one spot from the previous ranking at 125 lbs., carrying a 17-6 overall mark. Borja has a 17-8 mark and remains static in the poll. Gilmore picked up a pin at Limestone, but remains static with an 11-8 overall mark. Pittman has the team lead in overall wins (22), falls (10) and major decisions (8) and is steady at fifth. Brundage has a 16-7 overall mark with a 3-2 record at heavyweight, also remaining steady at fifth.

Newberry is idle this week and will next see action on the road at King University on Wednesday, February 4.
