Skylar Maxey is a 5-foot-4 defensive specialist/libero from Colleton County HS in Walterboro. She was a four-year starter on the varsity squad and was recognized as the best defender as junior while also being given the “Queen of Aces” award as the top server. Maxey played club volleyball for the Branchville Juniors Volleyball Club and was a two-year starter. Skylar is the daughter of Wes Maxey. 

“When I think of Skylar, the term “diamond in the rough” comes to mind,” Hay said. “She played at a small high school and did not have many looks from college coaches. When she came to Newberry and tried out, I could see that she possessed the natural abilities that coaches look for in their back row players: quick with solid passing techniques. I can’t wait to get Skylar in our gym and see how she develops at the collegiate level.”
