Tommy Love Davis

Tommy Love Davis was hired as defensive line coach at Newberry College in spring 2014.

Davis served as defensive line coach at Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., for the 2013 season. He coached the line in both a 3-4 and a 4-3 system for the Pumas, who improved from 90th in overall defense prior to his arrival to 14th in the nation in his one season.

Davis also coordinated the special teams for the Pumas, who allowed less than 100 yards rushing per game and went 8-3 overall with a 5-2 record in the GLVC.

Prior to his time at SJC, Davis served as a defensive graduate assistant with the University of North Carolina. The Tar Heels posted a 15-10 record over the course of the 2011 and 2012 seasons. UNC earned a trip to the Independence Bowl in 2011.
 
Davis, who played for the Tar Heels from 2002-05, returned to his alma mater after two years in the private sector. He started three consecutive seasons at defensive end and was an honorable mention All-ACC selection in 2005 after leading the team with 10 tackles for losses and eight sacks. Davis finished his career with 153 tackles.

Following his senior season, he was signed as a free agent by the New Orleans Saints. He also played for the New York Giants and Washington Redskins in 2007-08.
 
Davis is 2006 graduate of North Carolina, earning his bachelors degree in Communications.
