Wolves Win Five of Last Six Games, Sweeps California (PA.)

NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of California University (Pa.) Saturday at the Smith Road Complex, taking game one 3–1 before finishing the day with a 4–0 shutout victory in game two. The Wolves used strong pitching in both contests and timely hitting to secure the two non-conference wins at home.

Game 1: Newberry 3, California (Pa.) 1

Newberry opened the day with a 3–1 victory, scoring once in the first inning before adding two more runs in the fifth to secure the win.

Grace Ann Thompkins helped spark the offense early, while Payton Little, Haidyn Campbell, and Brooke Hodges each contributed key at-bats in the Wolves' scoring innings. In the circle, Natalie Wescott delivered a strong performance, limiting California (Pa.) to just one run on five hits while keeping the Vulcans off the scoreboard over the final three innings to secure the win.

Game 2: Newberry 4, California (Pa.) 0

The Wolves completed the sweep with a 4–0 shutout in the second game of the doubleheader. Newberry's offense produced 11 hits, with Campbell, Samantha Clark, Hodges, and Little leading the attack throughout the game.

The Wolves struck for two runs in the third inning and two more in the sixth, creating separation while the pitching staff kept California (Pa.) off the board. Newberry's pitching held the Vulcans to six hits while working around several baserunners, securing the shutout and completing the doubleheader sweep.

The Wolves will face off against Georgia College on the road in their next doubleheader on March 10th, with game one beginning at 1pm.
