NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry Wolves men's tennis team fell to Tusculum University, 4-1, in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday morning at home.
Tusculum claimed the early momentum by sweeping the two completed doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The pairing of Daniel Watson and Lucas Mruk dropped the No. 1 doubles match 6-4, while Martin Posada Garcia and Noel Bartz fell 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Senthen Reddy and Sohei Kamiyama was left unfinished.
Newberry responded in singles play with a strong performance at the top of the lineup. Watson earned the Wolves' lone point of the match with a dominant 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.
Tusculum secured the win with victories across the middle and lower courts. Posada Garcia fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Bartz dropped a three-set battle at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 0-6, 2-6. Mruk also came up short at No. 6 singles, falling 6-4, 6-3 as the Pioneers clinched the match.
Two singles matches went unfinished. Reddy trailed 6-4, 5-3 at No. 3 singles when play was halted, while Kamiyama split sets at No. 4 singles, 1-6, 7-6, before the match concluded.
The Wolves Will be on the road next on March 9th, facing off against West Virginia State University at Hilton Head.
