HARTSVILLE, SC — The Newberry baseball team opened its weekend South Atlantic Conference series with a 5–3 victory over Coker Friday evening in Hartsville. After falling behind early, the Wolves rallied behind a complete-game performance from Jacob Clark to secure the series-opening win.

Coker jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the second to take a 3–0 advantage. Newberry responded in the third inning when Nick Foster delivered an RBI triple to spark a two-run frame that cut the deficit to one. The Wolves took the lead in the fifth inning, plating two runs to move in front 4–3. Newberry added an insurance run in the eighth to extend the advantage to 5–3, while Clark continued to keep the Cobras off the board over the final seven innings.

Clark went the distance on the mound, tossing a complete game while allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts to earn the win.

At the plate, Chandler Mims led the Wolves with two hits and an RBI, while Foster finished with a triple and an RBI. Keillor Osbon, Luke Compton, and Logan Busenlehner each drove in a run as Newberry totaled eight hits in the victory.

The Wolves and Cobras will continue the three-game SAC series on Saturday.
