Wolves Baseball Falls at USC Aiken, 12–1

AIKEN, SC — Newberry dropped a midweek matchup on the road as USC Aiken pulled away early and never looked back in a 12-1 decision on Wednesday evening.

The Pacers struck quickly in the opening frame, stringing together three straight hits before a bases-clearing double to give USC Aiken a 3-0 lead. The momentum continued in the second inning as a two-run home run extended the advantage to 5-0.

Newberry answered in the top of the second for its lone run of the game. Chandler Mims reached with a two-out single and later came around to score on an RBI double to right field by Luke Compton, cutting the deficit to 5-1.

USC Aiken responded immediately, plating two runs in the second and adding three more in the third to push the lead to 8-1. The Pacers added a run in the fifth before tacking on three more in the eighth to secure the 12-1 final.

Compton led the Wolves offensively, going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, and an RBI, while Mims scored the lone run and added a hit. Bryson Nuckols and Jomar Lugo each recorded a hit as Newberry finished with five total on the night.

On the mound, Keillor Osbon was charged with the loss after allowing five runs. The Wolves used multiple arms in relief, with Anthony Plotkin, Mason Brady, Brad Brooks, Blake Morrison, and Caden Beaver combining to cover the remainder of the game.

The Wolves look to bounce back on Friday when they return to the Berry to face Lincoln Memorial in the first of a three game SAC series at 6pm.
