NEWBERRY, SC — Newberry trimmed a two-run deficit late but could not complete the comeback, falling to Lincoln Memorial 4–3 in the opening game of the weekend South Atlantic Conference series Friday night at the Smith Road Complex.
LMU broke a Wolves 1-0 lead with a three-run sixth inning and added another in the eighth. The Wolves answered in the fifth on an RBI single from Cooper Raines, then rallied in the seventh as Raines delivered a two-run triple to cut the deficit to one.
Raines led the offense, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Keillor Osbon, Finn McLaughlin, and Jomar Lugo each added a hit.
On the mound, Jacob Clark turned in a strong start, tossing eight innings and allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts. Newberry threatened in the ninth after back-to-back hit batters put runners aboard, but LMU held on to secure the win.
The Wolves will look toward tomorrow to cap off the series with a doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
