GREENEVILLE, TN — The Newberry Wolves continued their strong run in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from Tusculum with a 12–0 shutout in game one and a 9–3 victory in game two at Pioneer Park. The Wolves used dominant pitching and consistent offense throughout the day to secure the two wins
Game One: Newberry 12, Tusculum 0 (7 innings)
Newberry opened the doubleheader with a commanding 12–0 shutout victory, highlighted by a complete-game performance from Nick Riedel.
Riedel controlled the game from the start, tossing a seven-inning complete game, allowing just three hits while striking out five to keep the Pioneers off the scoreboard.
The Wolves jumped ahead early and steadily added to their lead throughout the game, finishing with 14 hits offensively.
Nick Foster led the offense with a 3-for-5 performance and two RBIs, while Logan Busenlehner drove in three runs. Jomar Lugo added two hits and two RBIs, and Cooper Raines collected two hits including a double while scoring twice.
Keillor Osbon also finished with two hits and two runs scored, while Chandler Mims contributed two RBIs as the Wolves pulled away for the run-rule victory.
Game Two: Newberry 9, Tusculum 3
Newberry completed the series sweep with a 9–3 win in game two, scoring in five different innings and finishing with 13 hits.
Tusculum took an early 1–0 lead in the first, but the Wolves answered quickly in the second inning. Bryson Nuckols doubled down the right-field line to score Nick Foster, and Chandler Mims followed with an RBI groundout to give Newberry a 2–1 lead.
The Wolves added another run in the third when Finn McLaughlin delivered an RBI single to bring home Luke Compton. Newberry continued to extend the lead in the fourth inning as Jomar Lugo delivered a two-run single up the middle, pushing the advantage to 5–1.
Tusculum cut the deficit to 6–3 in the fifth, but the Wolves answered immediately, breaking the game open with three runs in the sixth.
In the sixth, Lugo added another RBI single, Compton followed with an RBI single to right field, and Keillor Osbon brought home another run with a single to left to make it 9–3.
Lugo led the Wolves offensively with two hits and three RBIs, while Bryson Nuckols finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Osbon and Compton each added two hits, and Newberry again posted a strong offensive performance with 13 hits.
On the mound, Will Rissmiller earned the win with 3.2 innings of relief, allowing two runs while striking out one. Josh Bandy closed the game, earning the save, with 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out two to secure the victory.
The Wolves will take a break from SAC play to face USC Aiken on the road in a single game on Wednesday at 5pm.
