NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry College men's basketball put together a gritty effort but dropped an 85–72 decision to Emory & Henry University on Saturday afternoon inside Eleazer Arena.
The Wolves, 10-12 overall and 6-10 in SAC play , were led by Drake Downs, who finished with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists, and 2 steals, filling up the stat sheet on both ends of the floor. Makhi Rivers added 10 points while dishing out two assists and recording one steal.
Shane Hawkins chipped in nine points, along with one rebound and one steal, while Malakhi Stremlow provided a strong presence off the bench, scoring nine points and pulling down five rebounds.
Newberry forced turnovers throughout the contest, converting them into 15 points, and received solid production from its reserves with 24 bench points.
Emory & Henry took a 47–36 lead into halftime and maintained it down the stretch to secure the 85–72 win.
The Wolves will return home on Wednesday to face Lenoir-Rhyne at 7:30 PM.
