Freshman
Ricky Springs (Fort Dorchester) and Bo Perkins (Oviedo, Fla.) finished in second place at 125 pounds and 165 pounds at the NCAA Division 2 Super Region 2 tournament in Greenwood to qualify for the NCAA Division 2 national championships.
Springs, the number two seed, received a first-round bye and advanced to the regional finals by defeating seventh seeded Malachi Macedonio of Shorter (6-1) and third seeded Kaden Kuenzi of Lander (5-3) before falling to top seed Cole Hunt of Montevallo (9-6) in the finals.
Perkins, the number three seed, also received an opening round bye and earned a technical fall over 10th seeded Austin Marry of Belmont Abbey (19-4) and defeated second seeded Caleb Grau of UNC Pembroke (5-3) to advance to the finals. Battling injuries just to get to the finals, Perkins, already having secured his spot at the national tournament, took a medical forfeit.
Senior
John Parker ended his stellar Newberry College career by taking fifth place at 184 pounds, winning the final match of his college career defeating sixth seeded Luke Justice of King 9-1.Â
Parker, the third seed, went unscored upon in his first two matches defeating 14
th seeded Nahzir Turner of Shorter by technical fall (15-0) and sixth seeded Luke Justice of King (7-0) before falling to second seeded Kyler Pickard of Belmont Abbey (4-2). He lost to fourth seeded Jack Mackiernan of Mount Olive 3-2 on riding time before defeating Justice.
Sophomore
Rylan Madison (Blythewood High School) came into the tournament as the sixth seed at 285 pounds and defeated 11
th seed Eli Kimball of Shorter (7-4) before falling in the second round to third seeded Nathan Coley of King (8-1). He defeated 10
th seeded Chandler Allen of Allen (4-1) before falling to seventh seeded Hunter Miller of Coker (4-0).
Third seeded
Caiden Pelc (Portland, Mich.) dropped his first match at 133 pounds but bounced back to defeat Norikus Cowan of Allen (6-1) and Brock Christian of Mount Olive (10-3) before dropping his final match in the consolation semifinals.
At 157 pounds,
Matt Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J.) rallied after dropping his first match to defeat Jonathan Fogus of Shorter (12-5) and Zachary Russo of Coker (9-3) before dropping a one-point decision in the consolation semifinals.
The Wolves finished seventh of 12 teams with 63.5 points, just two points behind sixth place Mount Olive.
The NCAA Division 2 national tournament is in Sioux Falls, S.D. March 13-14.
