Wolves Take Control at Home with 5-2 Victory Over Georgia College

NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry College women's tennis team delivered a strong all-around performance Wednesday afternoon, earning a 5-2 victory over Georgia College in non-conference action.

With the win, the Wolves improved their momentum at home by securing the crucial doubles point and capturing four of six singles matches.

Doubles Action

Newberry came out sharp in doubles play, taking two of the three courts to claim the opening point.

At No. 2 doubles, the pairing of Hazel Vernon and Lina Sarhan controlled their match from start to finish, earning a decisive 6-3 victory. The No. 3 duo of Margarita Roshka and Aina Miralles followed with a strong 7-5 win to clinch the doubles point for the Wolves.

Singles Action

The Wolves sealed the team victory behind dominant performances in the middle and lower flights.

At No. 3 singles, Lina Sarhan battled back after dropping the first set to claim a three-set victory, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. Aina Miralles was steady at No. 4, earning a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 win.

No. 5 singles saw one of the most competitive matches of the afternoon, as Renee Dorval outlasted her opponent in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Hazel Vernon closed out the scoring in dominant fashion at No. 6 with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 sweep.

With the doubles point and depth across the lineup proving decisive, the Wolves showcased their balance and resilience in the 5-2 home victory. Newberry will look to carry the momentum into its next match as conference play approaches. The Wolves will be back in action on February 28th against Emory & Henry to kick off conference play.
