INDIANAPOLIS, IND. — The No. 12 Newberry College men's lacrosse team improved to 4-1 on the season with an 8-6 road victory over the University of Indianapolis on Friday evening. The Wolves used a dominant second quarter and a strong defensive second half to secure the nonconference win. After trailing 4-2 at the end of the first quarter, Newberry responded with four goals in the second period to take a 6-5 lead into halftime. The Wolves then limited Indianapolis to just one goal over the final 30 minutes to seal the 8-6 final.
Liam Vollans and Gage Vigar each tallied three goals to pace the offense, while Ian Jackson and Matthew Burt added one goal apiece. Newberry finished with 31 total shots and 18 shots on goal, capitalizing on timely scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
Defensively, the Wolves battled evenly on the ground, matching Indianapolis with 39 ground balls. Newberry also forced key turnovers and recorded timely caused turnovers that disrupted the Greyhounds' offensive rhythm, particularly in the fourth quarter. In transition, the Wolves were efficient on clears, successfully converting 30-of-35 attempts to help maintain possession and control the tempo late in the game.
Ranked No. 12 nationally, Newberry will stay on the road as the Wolves travel to face No. 11 Lewis University on Friday, February 21 at 1 p.m.
