ROMEOVILLE, IL- On Sunday afternoon at Lewis University, #12-ranked Newberry College fell 15-8 to #11 Lewis in a non-conference matchup. While the Wolves battled throughout, Lewis built an early lead and never relinquished control, scoring 10 goals in the first half to take momentum into the break.
Newberry's top performers were Gage Vigar and Scott Williams, who each recorded three goals in the contest to pace the Wolves' offense. Liam Vollans and Matthew Burt also found the back of the net, contributing one goal apiece as Newberry's attack showed spurts of life in the third and fourth quarters. On the defensive end, Newberry and Lewis were virtually even on the ground, with the Wolves edging out 30 ground balls to Lewis's 29, a testament to their effort on transition and possession battles.
Goalie Ben McMullen saw the majority of minutes in cage for Newberry, posting 11 saves while facing 41 shots, and the Wolves worked to clear efficiently at times with a 24-of-29 clears success.
With the result, Newberry's record stands at 4-2 on the season. The Wolves will now turn their attention to their next matchup on March 4 when they travel to take on Catawba College.
