TAMPA, FL - No.13 Newberry men's lacrossse opened the 2026 season on the road Sunday afternoon, dropping a 15–12 decision at the No.2 University of Tampa to begin the year at 0–1, while Tampa improved to 1–0. The Wolves faced an early challenge as Tampa built a 10–4 halftime lead, but Newberry continued to compete and showed poise coming out of the break, generating consistent offensive pressure throughout the second half.
The Wolves were led offensively by Gage Vigar, who paced the team with four goals and one assist, while Matthew Burt followed with three goals and an assist. Scott Williams added two goals, providing timely finishes as Newberry looked to close the gap, and Liam Vollans anchored the offense with a standout performance of seven assists and one goal.
Newberry returns to action on the road Wednesday, February 4, at 6 p.m. against Young Harris.
