NEWBERRY, S.C. — The Newberry College women's basketball team continued its strong surge in South Atlantic Conference play, claiming a 75–71 overtime victory over Tusculum University on Saturday afternoon at Eleazer Arena. The win marked Newberry's third consecutive conference victory, as the Wolves relied on balanced scoring, rebounding dominance, and clutch execution in a back-and-forth contest.
The Wolves were powered by a standout performance from Jada Brown, who posted a double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds, consistently finishing inside and creating second-chance opportunities. Rickell Brown followed closely with 24 points, providing offensive spark throughout regulation and knocking down key baskets when the Wolves needed them most. Marykate Kent added 12 points, while Hannah Nimmo contributed six points, including timely perimeter shots that helped Newberry maintain momentum during critical stretches.
Newberry built early rhythm offensively and remained composed through multiple lead changes across four quarters. Tusculum countered with scoring runs of its own, eventually forcing overtime late in regulation. In the extra period, the Wolves elevated their play on both ends of the floor, executing offensively while making crucial defensive stops to pull away. Newberry's presence in the paint and ability to control the glass proved pivotal in sealing the victory.
Defensively, the Wolves showed toughness and discipline down the stretch, limiting Tusculum's scoring opportunities in overtime and capitalizing on key possessions. Additional contributions from Daria Clet, who finished with eight points, provided valuable depth as Newberry's bench helped maintain energy throughout the contest.
With the victory, Newberry improves to 9–3 overall and 3–3 in SAC play, building confidence as conference competition intensifies. The Wolves will look to extend their winning streak when they return to the road for their next matchup on Wednesday, January 7 at 5:30 p.m., facing Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action.
