NEWBERRY,SC- The Newberry College women's basketball team put together a resilient effort on Wednesday night at Eleazer Arena but ultimately fell to Coker University, 65–51. The Wolves stayed competitive early but trailed 29–20 at halftime after Coker used consistent scoring and defensive pressure to gain separation in the first half. Newberry worked to close the gap coming out of the break, continuing to attack the basket and earn trips to the free-throw line.
In the second half, the Wolves showed determination and energy, particularly in the final quarter, where they pushed the pace and looked to cut into the deficit. Newberry finished the game shooting an efficient 81 percent from the free-throw line, capitalizing on opportunities at the stripe. Rickell Brown led the Wolves offensively with 24 points, while Jada Brown turned in a strong all-around performance with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The Wolves will be on the road Saturday, January 31, at 2 p.m. to face UVa Wise.
